Marshall Detention Release Routes
Marshall County Detention Center is the central local release-record source. A detainee may leave after posting bond, receiving a pretrial or court order, completing a local sentence, entering probation, or being transferred. Another county, KY DOC, the U.S. Marshals Service, BOP, or ICE may receive the person. The jail's release entry should identify the time, authority or code, and destination when that information is public.
Community release is only one outcome. “Released to DOC,” “other agency,” or a transfer code means custody continued beyond the Benton building. Ask for the jail's code table if the label is abbreviated. Then search the named receiver. When the release was based on bond, dismissal, sentence, or probation, use the Marshall court file to find the signed order and confirm whether other holds existed.
Confirm Marshall Detention Release
The official county page does not publish a verified historical release search or rolling 24-hour or 72-hour feed. Direct confirmation begins with one confinement and a tight date range.
- Match the full booked name, approximate booking date, case number, and booking number if known.
- Contact the detention center and ask for the existing booking-and-release entry.
- Request the recorded date and time, public release category, destination, and code definition.
- Check the Marshall court docket for the bond, dismissal, sentence, probation, or release order.
- If the entry names another custodian, follow the person in that agency's locator or records office.
The full county search and records path is covered on the Marshall County released inmates home page. It separates county-only cases from state, federal, and immigration cases. Identity checks matter at every step. Compare dates and record numbers, not just a name or photograph.
Marshall Detention Records Contact
The official Marshall County Detention Center page is the current source for contact details. It identifies Jailer Roger Ford and directs detention open-record requests to the jailer's county email. Recheck the page before sending a request because officeholders and custodians can change.

Ask for electronic delivery when the requested record already exists in electronic form. No verified jail copy price appears on the detention page, so request a fee estimate. Under current KRS 61.880, an agency generally issues its written response within five business days. A delay or denial should cite its basis and, when records are unavailable, state the earliest availability date.
Request a Marshall Release Entry
A narrow request is more useful than “all records.” It reduces mistaken identity and directs the custodian to the event at issue. Ask for reasonably separable nonexempt portions if part of the file is protected.
| Requested item | Why it matters |
|---|---|
| Booking number and booking time | Connects release to the correct confinement |
| Release date and time | Shows when county custody ended |
| Release authority or category | Distinguishes bond, court order, sentence served, and transfer |
| Destination or hold disposition | Shows whether another custodian took the person |
| Code definitions | Explains short system labels |
| Booking image | Should be requested separately for that booking |
Do not ask the jail to create a legal conclusion. Request the record it keeps. Medical, juvenile, victim, witness, security, sealed, and expunged information may be withheld or redacted. The court owns its orders, and KY DOC owns the state sentence or discharge record.
Marshall Jail Population Mix
The building is a county jail, yet some residents may be state inmates. Kentucky uses county facilities for Class D prisoners, controlled-intake cases, parole violators, and other categories. Legal status, not the walls, determines the right release search.
The KY DOC weekly jail report also listed 13 community-custody eligible inmates, four controlled-intake inmates, three parole violators, and no federal inmates for that date. These are one-day operational figures. They are not current totals, annual release counts, or proof that any named person was released.
Marshall State Inmate Departures
A state offender can physically leave Marshall County Detention Center while remaining within KY DOC jurisdiction. Search Kentucky Offender Online Lookup for status, location, sentence information, parole data, and actual or projected dates. A KOOL location of Marshall County Detention Center means the state record associates the person with that physical jail. It does not convert the jail into a state prison.
KY DOC Daily Releases reports can identify Marshall as the releasing facility for the state-inmate subset. Those reports may list DOC number, name, release type, facility, and offender class. They do not cover every local detainee. A projected release date is planning data, not proof that a release occurred. Confirm the completed event through current status, the actual release field, and DOC records.
Marshall Court Release Evidence
The jail establishes its departure event, while the Marshall County court office provides durable judicial records. CourtNet can help locate the case. The signed bond order, release order, judgment, sentence, dismissal, probation order, or revocation order gives the legal context.
A “case closed” label does not always mean a sentence is discharged. “Time served” may explain one release but must be checked against other holds. Probation is a community sentence, not an acquittal. Match each order to the booking because a person can have more than one active case.
Marshall Transfer Destinations
If the record names another county jail, search that receiving jail. When the destination is KY DOC, use KOOL. The BOP locator applies only after federal commitment, while the U.S. Marshals prisoner information route explains federal pretrial and transport custody. An immigration detainer requires the ICE locator and, if needed, ERO follow-up.
VINELink can supply a participating agency's status and custody-event notice. It may lag and does not reveal every release reason or destination. Use an alert as the prompt to call the source agency and obtain the release record.
Marshall Detention Record Context
The county's detention policy manual shows that the facility maintains written records, logs, movement records, release procedures, and property controls. It does not make every internal security or movement record public. Kentucky's Open Records Act permits exemptions and redaction while still requiring production of separable public parts.
The official detention page states no former-inmate web retention period. Online disappearance does not show that the underlying record was destroyed. Agency retention rules, litigation needs, expungement, sealing, and the limits of a web vendor are different questions. For an old departure, use the jail archive and court record rather than a current roster.
The Kentucky Legislature's KRS Chapter 197 page gives the sentence-credit framework relevant to state cases:

Those state rules must not be applied as a county-jail calculator for every local detainee.
Marshall Release Terms Compared
The same word can hide a key distinction. Bond is a pretrial release while the case continues. Recognizance is a release under court terms that may not require a conventional cash bond. Time served means the credited local confinement was completed, though other cases or holds can remain. Probation is imposed by a judge and served in the community under conditions. Parole is conditional release from a state sentence after action by the Kentucky Parole Board.
- Detainer
- A request or legal basis for another agency to take or retain custody.
- Mandatory reentry supervision
- A statutory form of supervised release near the end of qualifying state sentences.
- Final discharge
- The closing of the correctional or supervision obligation.
- Revocation
- A court or supervision action that can return a person to custody after an earlier release.
These terms determine the records path. A bond release points to the court. Parole or mandatory reentry points to KOOL, DOC, and supervision records. A detainer points to the receiving agency. Final discharge requires a completed correctional status, not merely absence from the jail.
Marshall Release Property Records
Release processing may include property and accounting records. A person entitled to those documents can ask for the existing property receipt or release acknowledgment tied to the confinement. Those records can support the timing of the facility departure, but they do not replace the release entry or show the full legal reason for departure.
Keep release papers, court orders, booking numbers, and property acknowledgments together. If an item remains at the facility, contact the detention center for its current pickup process rather than assuming an old policy still applies. The researched detention materials do not establish a universal gate payment, fixed pickup period, or county-specific release hour, so none should be inferred.
